Day 2: Indigenous village, waterfall and beach
Today, we will meet the Pataxó people who have arrived some years ago from the south of Bahia, and live in Paraty. The welcome ritual is called Awe Pataxó, a traditional cultural performance and, next, we will have a conversation with the leaders so that we can have a better understanding of the heritage of this original peoples and their relationship with the city. Several daily activities in the village are part of the experience, such as body painting workshop, visit to community spaces, bathing in the sea and waterfall, and much more.
Day 3: Afro-Brazilian Community (Quilombo)
The Quilombo Campinho da Independência is a place of resistance, beauty and wisdom. Beautiful handicrafts, a gastronomy that integrates the traditional and the contemporary, profound stories, cultivation of native seedlings from the Atlantic Forest and the strength of the jongo’s drums and skirts, a cultural event that involves singing, dancing and clapping. In addition, of course, to the surrounding forest, its rivers and mangroves. A unique experience.
Day 4: Caiçaras (traditional local people) of the Cajaíba Beach
We will visit one of the most incredible beaches on the coast of Paraty and the Caiçara community of the Cajaíba Beach. Departing in the morning, we will take a boat trip with stunning views until we reach the community. There, we will have conversations with local residents about traditional community knowledge such as fishing, flour production and the practice of agroforestry. And, of course, free time to enjoy the beautiful beaches. The caiçara experience is complete with gastronomic charms, such as coffee strained with cane juice and a delicious lunch by the sea with local fish.
